Is La Mer really worth the hype?

For years, I have been hearing about the La Mer. However, it’s never really crossed my mind to buy them because it’s so expensive. Couple months ago, my dear husband bought me this trial set of the famous La Mer Creme De La Mer and it also comes with the La Mer Concentrate. I have been putting it aside somewhere in my drawer because I didn’t want to disrupt its luxury status by opening and using it. On the other hand, I already have other much cheaper skincare products I was already using.

After several months, as I was slowly depleting my skincare products, I decided I should use the La Mer before it expires and goes to waste. I also really want to use it on a consistent basis to see if it’s actually worth the hype (and money).

On March 9th, I finally opened the bottles. After cleansing and toning my face, I opened that little green container and applied this fancy La Mer Concentrate serum on my face, and followed it with the La Mer Creme De La Mer.

La Mer The Concentrate (The Trial Size Pictured)

Overall

At $31 for the trial size, it’s definitely not too much to shell out to give this luxury a try. I can’t really tell whether this makes my skin better. I could only believe that it has to work because it’s so expensive, mirite? The smell and texture makes me feel like a queen though. So i will probably only buy it if I really want to splurge on myself for the few seconds each day when I get to smell and feel the product…. Actually, nah, I’ll probably spend it on something that I know works unless I have extra money lying around.

This little concentrate smells like luxury and nothing I’ve ever smelled before. The smell reminds me a little bit of the ocean for some reason. It literally smells like complicated skincare science because it smells artificial, yet in a good luxurious way.

Texture

Rating: 4 out of 5.

The texture of the concentrate is really really smooth. It goes on your skin like it was never there and the application feels like it glides right on. On one hand, it felt like a little goes a long way. However, it is also because of how smooth it is, I actually can’t really tell it I’m using enough. If I put more on, it feels the same though that it dissolves into your skin right away. Maybe that’s how they get you to use more so you could buy again.

I also can’t really tell if this creme is giving me glowing skin. At the beginning, when I was using it twice a day, my skin started to feel dry a couple hours before my next application. I might be skimping on the products so I started using more of this along with more serums, and the creme finally started doing its job of moisturizing. So far, my skin is little softer but I’m not sure if it’s because of the creme of because of the fact that I’m using more of everything else as well. Hence, I’m not sure if it’s worth $100s of dollars just to moisturize… I like the luxury but I wouldn’t feel comfortable using a lot of it so I don’t think this would be the only moisturizer I use even if I were to buy it again.

You are supposed to rub it on your hands until it turns clear before putting it on your face. I felt like that’s just their way of making you use more products because you are rubbing it into your hands instead of your face. However, with the tiny trial size bottle I had, I was amazed that it could last me more than a month using it twice a day. It’s now April 11 and I still probably have another week worth of product left in that tiny little jar.

Texture / Absorption

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This creme is definitely on the thicker side. Exactly because I have to rub it in my hands before putting it on my face and the fact that this is pretty thick, it doesn’t spread easily when my face is dry after absorbing all the Concentrate serum and I use more than I normally would with other thinner products. However, since I’ve used up the Concentrate and back to using my DRMTLGY needle-less serum, I’ve recently found out that the creme spreads more easily when my face is still damp from the serum. I guess I was just being too cheap and didn’t use enough of the Concentrate then…

With all that said, these are definitely one of the best gifts you could ever get for anyone who uses skincare products though. It’s luxurious, it’s expensive, it’s thoughtful, it’s like gold in a jar. If they are new to it, it’s probably something they don’t want to buy for themselves because of the price. And even if they don’t like it, they could return it for the money lol.

Backyard Shopping List for the Summer

We are moving to a new place where we will finally have a backyard. Since summer is coming, I might as well start compiling a list of things we should get to prepare for some fun in the sun.

1. This NERF RoboBlaster! You will have to shoot down the targets to dismantle the NERF RoboBlaster! I can already see my kids spending those hot days blaster water at each other! Looks like I will also have to buy some NERF super soakers to go with this…

2. .. and this Thermacell Rechargeable Mosquito Repeller. I hate mosquitos and so do my kids. It’s hard to enjoy the great outdoors with all these blood-sucking insects flying all over the place. This Thermacell says it can create a 20-foot mosquito protection zone. Will definitely try this out.

3. …and this Bug Bite Thing. I first saw the Bug Bite Thing way back on Shark Tank and have always been curious about it. I’m going to add this to the list to remind myself when this comes in handy (hopefully never?)
